Temples

Untitled I, acrylic and markers on canvas, 190 × 106 cm, 2024; Untitled II, acrylic and markers on canvas, 190 × 106 cm, 2024; Untitled III, acrylic and markers on canvas, 190 × 106 cm, 2024

The series consists of three paintings on canvas stretched on stretcher bars. It reflects my journey of discovering spirituality and its meaning in my life, which began in childhood with Catholicism, continued through a phase of atheism, and ultimately transitioned into the realisation that the concept of a higher power that created everything surrounding us, including ourselves, is closer to me than the notion of its absence. In my reflections, it takes the form of a creative energy interwoven throughout all of nature. Spending time in it can evoke a deeply spiritual experience within me. Regarding the perception of this power, I feel close to the ideas of animatism and animism; however, much like the contemporary animist perspective, this approach holds a primarily metaphorical character for me.

Below you can view the documentation of the creation process of the paintings:

A flash of initial inspiration appeared in a hypnagogic state between sleep and wakefulness. Powerful impressions from a walk above Banská Štiavnica transformed into inner images in the form of towering cathedrals made of trees, which came to me in a dream and remained vividly in my memory upon waking.

Prior to creating the paintings, digital collages were made to serve as a loose reference. I painted intuitively, making decisions directly during the process of creation.

I chose a combined layered technique (using acrylic paints and markers).
