Moments spent in nature enrich me in many ways. I enjoy returning to the same places and observing how they change throughout the day, with the shifting seasons, and over longer periods of time.

Nature calms me; it brings perspective and a sense of lightness to difficult days, but sometimes it also stirs feelings of sadness and nostalgia—for example, when I see that another of my favourite trees has been cut down or another strip of meadow has been fenced off.

My interest in the natural environment goes beyond the visual or the emotions it evokes. It is deeply intertwined with a wealth of symbols. Studying them is fascinating and enriching, influencing not only my work in other genres but also my reflections on broader life contexts.

For a long time, the two most compelling symbols for me have been the tree and the sun. I prefer taking walks during moments when I can observe the last rays of sunlight filtering through the treetops. The tree symbolises the archetype of the Self—our true essence hidden within the unconscious. The sun’s rays, in turn, represent energy and life-giving creative power; for some, it is a higher intelligence, for others, it is creativity, God, Mother Nature, goodness, or love.

The intersection of these two symbols means for me an opening up to this power.

It is not an act, but a process of understanding and accepting one’s own shadows, which is the only way to overcome fear.

Yet, the sunset reminds us of something else—the fleeting nature of the moment makes us more acutely aware that everything is temporary. But therein lies its magic.

I create my landscapes primarily using oil painting on canvas or OSB boards, either en plein air or in the studio based on my own photographs taken during my walks.
