I create painted, mostly figural, finely stylized collages supplemented with tradicional and my own symbols.

I am mainly engaged in oil painting. In the latest series of paintings, I dealt with gender aspects, the position of women in society, the effect of the myth of beauty, the influence of the church on the current situation in the field of human rights, but also environmental problems.

I am also interested in the psychology of interpersonal relationships, or the connection and interaction of public and private space, totalitarianism, the growing influence of populism and extreme right-wing political parties that threaten democracy with the help of hoaxes. I deal with this topic in a series of paintings that I am currently working on.

Another area of my interest is layering and linking, whether it is about themes, symbols, installation, “low” and “high” genres of art or a layered painting technique, the possibilities of which I would like to further explore in the context of contemporary painting elements and I would like to continue to work on connecting different techniques, analog and digital, or step up with a painting from a two-dimensional space.

I suggest the idea by placing elements in an environment where they don’t seem to belong, the expression and attitude of the figures, personification, color, structure or references to cultural contexts, I connect the real and the imaginary.

My areas of interest also include fairy tales and myths, in which I look for parallels with the present and through them refer to values that stand on the side of good in fairy tales, but also in the real world.

In realistic works, I look for subtle melancholic beauty in the world that surrounds us. I am interested in landscape painting, I mainly paint the surroundings that I know well and have a relationship with. I am fascinated by portrait painting, in which I try to capture the nature of a person.

The directions that influence me the most are magical realism, surrealism, pop-surrealism, feminist art and symbolism. I admire works from the Belle Epoque, Secession and Art Deco periods, the golden era of illustration, the Pre-Raphaelites, realism, the Arts and Crafts style, I am fascinated by science fiction and fantasy.

Traditional art techniques prevail in my work: mainly oil painting, drawing with graphite pencils, combined technique (pencil, watercolor, tempera, crayons…), acrylic. To a lesser extent, I am engaged in wall painting, digital art creation, sculpture, photography, jewelry and home accessories design,  I enjoy experimenting, connecting traditional and digital techniques, trying or inventing new procedures.

Ing. Zuzana Dolinay, DiS.

I was born in 1984 in Žilina. Creation has fascinated me from my childhood. I like to connect a fantasy world with a real world, personify abstract concepts, or express them using symbols.

I have been working as a freelance artist since 2011. I create freely, as well as custom work for clients, mainly using traditional art techniques.

Since 2019, I have been studying painting at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. I finished my bachelor’s degree in 2023 and am currently continuing my master’s degree.

Most often I create oil paintings, drawings, or I combine different techniques.

I am married and live with my husband in Turie near Žilina, Slovakia, where I also have my studio.
