Fast fashion

Fast Fashion, digital photomosaic, print on photo paper, 100 × 100 cm, 2022

In this work, I focused on the issue of fast fashion and its impact on society and the environment. I chose the strategy of appropriation, working with photographs found online in two categories: images from fast fashion campaigns and shots capturing the consequences of their production. These photographs serve as the tiles of a photomosaic, together forming the motif of posing models.

The digital mosaic was created using the AndreaMosaic software. Its foundation is a painting executed in a mixed media technique (graphite pencils, acrylic, and wax pastel) on watercolour paper, based on imagery from advertising campaigns.

The meaning is highlighted by an optical illusion that allows the individual photographs to be seen only upon close inspection, metaphorically referencing our ability to assess the risks of our own shopping behaviour only when we examine it more closely.

This project was developed as part of the Visual Analysis course at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica under the guidance of Mgr. art. Matúš Maťátko.
