Zuzana Dolinay is a Slovak visual artist working primarily with the medium of painting.
In 2025, she graduated with her master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica under the guidance of doc. Mgr. art. Ján Triaška, ArtD., and prof. Ľudovít Hološka, akad. mal. Her studies provided her with the opportunity to develop her own artistic language through painting practice, experimentation, and deeper conceptual reflection.
Prior to this, she completed post-secondary vocational education in glass design at the Secondary Vocational School of Glassmaking in Lednické Rovne, which continues to influence her approach to materials, craft techniques, and the relationship between the material essence of a work and its layer of meaning.
In her work, she explores hidden layers of meaning. She is interested in unconscious psychological processes, archetypes, symbols, and their connections to deeper mechanisms that shape both individual and collective experiences. She draws inspiration from the fields of psychology, philosophy, mythology, and cultural anthropology.
She explored these questions in her master’s thesis, The Secret Life of Things, for which she was awarded the Dean’s Award for an Outstanding Master’s Thesis in 2025 from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.
She has presented her work at exhibitions in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Poland. She has received several awards and honourable mentions in the visual arts competitions Výtvarné spektrum and Tvorba. Since 2011, she has worked as a freelance visual artist, focusing on her own artistic practice.
She lives and works in Slovakia.
